It can be a really good idea to be quite aware of the laws in the country where you live. We cannot all be lawyers, of course, but it is a good idea to know what is going on. To know what your rights are as well as how you are expected to behave is extremely useful. Knowing how to behave means that you will not be punished for behaviour that you do not realise is inappropriate. Unfortunately not knowing that something is against the law is no defence, if you break the law you will be arrested whether or not you knew that it was not allowed.

This also applies in foreign countries and so if you are going abroad it is a good idea to check on these things. Most western countries have similar laws but if you go elsewhere then you may need to be extra careful. Some countries also have harder punishments and that can be worth bearing in mind as well.

If you know what your rights are then you can be at a big advantage as well. You may have benefits and entitlements which you can claim which could make you a lot better off. It is worth learning about these things because you may just have to fill in a few forms and you may have some money coming your way or you may not have to pay certain bills.

It is therefore a good idea to find out about the law and understand what rules particularly effect you. You should be able to find all of the information that you need on the Internet, but if you cannot then you should be able to get it by talking to the citizens advice bureau or similar organisations. Even talking to other people in similar circumstances to you could help you get the information that you need.
